Lusiaves Group recycles 97% of their waste
30/10/2017

Throughout 2016, Lusiaves Group managed to recycle 97% of the waste produced during that year and to direct 400 tonnes of card and plastic for recycling. In addition, the Group is working alongside with facilities of biofertiliser production, directing sludge waste from Treatment Plants and ashes to such facilities, which are then used in agricultural valorisation of soils.

The recycling of 97% of their waste allows Lusiaves Group to contribute for the preservation of natural resources and therefore reduce the environmental impact inherent to the activity, since such waste is used as raw material, in the production of new products or used in agricultural valorisation of soils, instead of being disposed.

It should also be mentioned that 75% of the manufacturing plants of Lusiaves Group, with more than 20 companies and 41 plants distributed across 24 municipalities, include the IPPC – Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control - environmental licensing. This licensing provides for the application of measures to prevent or reduce emissions from the activity to the air, water or soil, noise prevention and control, and the production of waste, with the purpose of protecting the environment.

Lusiaves Group intends to implement measures which allow reducing the amount of annually produced waste from containers of cleaning and disinfection products, by replacing small containers which cannot be reused, with higher capacity containers, offering the possibility of reuse. So, with the reduction of the amount of waste produced, since the containers may be reused many times, there is also a contribution for the prevention of environmental impacts in natural resources associated with manufacturing of new containers.
