A multisensory room for activities with children with multiple disabilities has been opened at the Dr. Correia Mateus Preschool and Primary School in Leiria. This project was made possible primarily through funding from the Lusiaves Group, with support from various entities and contributions from the school's teachers and staff.

The inauguration of this space, named the “Comendador Avelino Gaspar Room,” was conducted by the School Group Director and the President of the Lusiaves Group. The ceremony, which took place last Saturday, June 4th, was attended by the Councilor for Education, the Parish Council President, teachers, staff, students, and parents.

Avelino Gaspar, President of the Lusiaves Group, stated that this support stems from the corporate social responsibility commitment held by the group and emphasized the importance of this project, which “has the merit of avoiding ghettos by promoting inclusion, as difference should never be a reason for exclusion.”

Jorge Dias, Director of the School Group, highlighted the importance of everyone's contribution to “the realization of projects of this nature, which make it possible to provide equipment that allows for better conditions and learning environments with educational responses better suited to each student's profile.” The Director thanked the Lusiaves Group, the various companies and individuals who supported this initiative, and the school community, which has been involved in various ways in fundraising efforts to support the integration of children with special educational needs in the School Group's multiple disabilities unit.

The newly opened space was designed according to the “Snoezelen” methodology, based on personalized multisensory therapies aimed at children with learning difficulties. The Dr. Correia Mateus School has a mission to welcome children with multiple disabilities from the Leiria municipality.
